Seriously Funny

saw this live
I have to say kevin hart is hilariously funny! Saw him perform this stand-up live in richmond,va and was non-stop laughter. This dude is definitely going places and I can't wait to get this on dvd!

OMG!!!
I saw this last night on Comedy Central and I couldn't stop laughing....Best stand up show I've seen in a long time.

Laugh til you cry
I saw this last night on Comedy Central, 3 words- OMG! This is super funny. Kevin Hart is underrated, and he keeps delivering great material. And none of it was recycled from the first one. I am pre-ordering now. Love it!

The Super Hero Squad Show: Volume One

Fun show but only 7 episodes on the disc
Great show for my kids but also some in jokes for those of us who know the real Marvel characters and a couple of puns that will go right over kids' heads. My biggest and guess only complaint is that there is only 7 out of the 26 episodes from the first season. It appears to be the first seven episodes. The stories on the show are minimally based on any actual classic Marvel story (although the episode title screen is a re-imagined comic cover). Basic good guy vs. bad guy with main characters of Iron Man, Hulk, Surfer, Thor, Falcon, Wolverine, Reptil vs. Dr. Doom, Abomination and MODOK. A lot of esoteric guest characters and every character is given one obvious personality quirk. Again this is really for little kids but you'll laugh too.

The episodes are:
And Lo...A Pilot Shall Come!
This Silver, This Surfer!
Hulk Talk Smack!
To Err is Superhuman!
Enter: Dormammu!
A Brat Walks Among Us!
Oh Brother!

Also there's bonus...

Love Superheros
We purchased this for my 4 year old son, as he loved to watch it on TV. He runs around like a nut when he hears the theme song. My husband and I both actually like this show too. The only drawback about Superhero Squad is they use the word "hate" and we've tried to keep that word out of our son's vocabulary as long as possible. Otherwise, it is an excellent, entertaining show.

Not the complete season!
The show is hilarious and is a great "first" superhero cartoon for my son.
He has been singing the "Super Hero Squad" song and running around acting like the different characters.
However, this is not the entire season. There are only a few episodes and some commentary.
I was a little misled.

Chloe

Chloe: An interesting look at redemption
Atom Egoyan's new film Chloe tells a story that's been told many times before, the tale of the woman scorned. But the new perspective that Egoyan brings to the erotic thriller genre, that makes it more original and provocative than any film I've seen this year.

Julianne Moore's portrayal of the heroine, Catherine Stewart, is near perfect. Moore has really been at the top of her game lately. In A Single Man, she played a character that she also brought great depth to, despite having only about fifteen minutes of air-time. In Chloe, she plays an upper middle-class gynecologist, who has been married to David (Liam Neeson) for many years. She suspects that he's having an affair, after noticing his flirtacious banter with a waitress, and after missing a flight, and his surprise birthday party. And just like that, her long simmering suspicions rise to the surface.

Finding no answer other than infidelity, she hires an escort, played by Amanda Seyfried, in the title...

awesomely sexy
i thought it had a really good cast and that the dynamic between the characters was really good too. it was nice to see amanda seyfried doing a new kind of role and she did an excellent job at portraying "chloe". julianne moore is pretty much awesome in whatever she does and this was no different. liam neeson wasn't there for some of the shooting because of natasha richardson's skiing accident; but he managed to film all his scenes over a short period of time. i thought this movie was very good (including the storyline) and very sexy too. you aren't really sure what is going on (the truth) until near the end of the movie. the sex scenes are also very hot. i recommend at least giving it a chance and not to be fooled by the negative reviews.

Mistrust, like many doors, sees us sometimes walk through
A chance meeting sets some things into motion - one of those being the testing of a husband's faith. See, a married man misses a flight home, missing his surprise party in the process. This makes his wife wonder what he was up to, and a text with a picture of a young girl makes her wonder even more. solution: in the bathroom, on a night out, the wife meets a girl named Chloe. She seems nice enough and claims to be clean and that sets the wife's mind into motion. she decides to take Chloes and get her to tempt her husband. The problem is that she doesn't know Chloe or know anything about what she wants at all, making things turn out to be - complex and then some.

When I sat down to watch Chloe, I thought I had already seen a million movies like it. The cheating husband and the not-so-blind wife, the person hired to bring it all into focus, and then the drama. The problem was that this is not the story at all - it only seems to be.

I personally liked the cast to...

Wesley: A Heart Transformed Can Change the World

Wesley-One of the better Christian movies out there
Wesley is a drama based on the real life story of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism.

This movie feels like the type of film that should have been made for hundreds of millions of dollars by mainstream filmmakers-but wasn't.

That being said, Wesley is a GOOD Christian film. It may not have a huge budget, and some of the accents are a bit off, but it is a tighter film than some of the low-budget Christian films that manage to get a wide release. There is actually a strong emotional component to the film. It is simply a better film than any of the Left Behind movies, Fireproof, To Save a Life, etc. Burgess Jenkins does a good job in the titular role. Keith Harris gives rather heartwarming performance as the famous hymnist Charles. The supporting cast is usually strong, and the film actually has a lush quality to it.

And the DVD has some pretty entertaining special features to boot. It really makes me appreciate the work into making this superior...

Very Good Quality Christian Film - excellent for Methodists and Moravians alike
First off - a disclaimer - I saw this movie at a preview screening before the final cut was made. Several aspects of the film's quality leaped out at me. First, it is beautifully filmed. Second, the acting by all of the primaries is wonderful. Finally, as a bit of a Methodist historian myself (see my book "the Fruit of the Vine, a history of Methodism in the Southern Piedmont" on Amazon), I was very impressed with the historical accuracy of the film. Most Methodists and Moravians known little of Wesley's years in Georgia and the fact that they were, with the exception of his organizing a small "Methodist" meeting there, a complete failure.

The movie admirably portrays Wesley's awkwardness with women - a problem that plagued him throughout his life, as his later marriage was an utter disaster with a great deal of bitterness arising between him and his bride. The movie also recreates the very real desire in Wesley's life to seek a right relationship with God and to be...

Wesley, a mover and shaker then and now
I am coming from a different perspective then many of the viewers. In 2003, the 300th anniversary of John Wesley's birth, I went around Central and Northern Texas telling about the man, who influenced the world, then and now. His father was a Vicar in the Anglican church and his mother was noted as a non-conformist which was code for being a Puritan. John who was almost left in a burning when he was a child, had become to be known as a firebrand, (a person who is passionate about a particular cause, typically inciting change and taking radical action). He and his brothers had gone into the family business but it wasn't business as usual as John had a extraordinary event that changed him forever. He adopted many of the views of his mother and merged it with his theological training. Those two elements incited a life that eventually changed England. If it were not for John Wesley, England would have surely gone into civil war (not my views but historical chroniclers).
This amazing...

Jersey Shore: Season One (Uncensored)

what a rip-off...
okay basically, did you watch the show? that's whats on the DVD.
the only thing they dont censor is the limited amount of cursing
that wasnt edited out already. everything is blurred out. the
sound, picture quality (WHICH BTW IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN FULLSCREEN)
and anything else you would think a DVD might have as far as an
upgrade from watching it on cable/satellite is not on it.

oh im sorry, they have a lame special features disc and a handful
of deleted scenes. if youve seen this show already, dont buy it,
do not let them get any money from this. its too late for me however.
just dont make my mistake.

if i could give it a 0/0 i would.
DO NOT BUY THIS DVD

Show - Great; DVD - Terrible
Ok, this is not a critique of the show, which I absolutely loved. However, the DVD was of very poor quality. First, it is not "uncensored" like the ad suggests. The DVD presentation is identical to the TV show. Second, there are basically no special features other than some deleted scenes thrown in. Finally, the picture quality was very mediocre and below DVD (480p) standards. It seemed like a DVD put together by someone working from a home computer. All of the touches that accompany a quality DVD release are absent. Honestly, if you have already DVRed the episodes, then this is not worth buying.

Don't waste your money
Yeah the DVD does not prove to be uncensored as it is advertised. Jerry Springer was uncensored, Jersey Shore was just put a a DVD. Same stuff you see on TV you'll see on the DVD. If you're like most and want to see some extra stuff on the DVD then don't bother because it's not there. Just wait for the reruns

Bought this my my 3 yr old son for his birthday. He never saw the show before. I bought it because it was voted as one of the top educational DVDs for pre-schoolers. The 5-star review is for him. He watched this ALL WEEK-END. I couln't even put on Thomas the train or Roary the Racing Car. Love the singing! Love the adventures! Love the power to Read!

Excellent educational entertainment
My son loves Super Why and now he can watch it any time! 4 episodes to keep him entertained while he learns.

Love Super Why
Every morning, the first words out of my toddler's mouth are "I want to watch Super Why." He loves all of the PBS shows, but especially this one. I used to sit and try to teach him the alphabet with paper and crayons, but it wasn't going so well. He started watching Super Why and literally two weeks later, he knows all of his letters and is constantly pointing out letters we see when we go out!

Kick-Ass

I want to adopt Hit-Girl
What a wacky movie this is. When I first saw the previews, I thought this Kick-Ass was going to be aimed at kids and teens. Boy was I way off, because it earns it's R rating many times over. I really had no intention of seeing this film until I saw the very positive reviews flowing in from the critics. Not that I always agree with them, but in this case I would like to thank them for getting my butt down to the local theater today.

Parts of the movie reminded me of Watchmen. You have everyday people who are sick of bad things happening to good people, decide to put on costumes, have funny hero names, and then beat and cut apart the bad guys in a not so nice way. I actually thought it was rather tame in the gore department, compared to what I read about beforehand, but the violence and language is way too strong for kids.

The acting is good from everyone. I liked newcomer Aaron Johnson as Kick-Ass himself. Nicolas Cage turns in one of his better performaces in a...

One of a few movies I've paid to see twice.
Just like the rest of you, I went into the theater knowing not a whole lot about this movie. I thought it would be lame, cheesy, corny, *insert adjective here*. But, I was DEAD wrong to say the least. Kick-Ass combines action, comedy, and emotion, all at the right times. The movie flows well mainly because the cast jives so well together. I have yet to come out of a movie theater so pumped and wanting more than after I came out of Kick-ass

Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass)- I didn't realize he was a British actor until I heard a voice clip from an interview. You sure can't tell from the movie. He plays a great nerdy type kid. But what separates him from actors like Michael Cera is that he actually grew some balls and decided to stand up to crime. He does a great job as the lead actor in the first half of the movie, but quickly gets overshadowed by young dynamo, Chloe Moretz

Nicholas Cage (Big Daddy)- In my eyes, he redeemed himself for movies like Ghost Rider and Knowing...

Brutal, disturbing, and hilarious!
The film is based on a comic book by the same name. The rights to the story were sold before the book was even published (it debuted only eight weeks before the film):

A teenage boy decides to take a stand for justice. He dons a green scuba costume and names himself Kick-Ass. However, not having any actual superpowers, this hero's good intentions quickly land him in an ICU. Eventually though, Kick-Ass crosses paths with a couple of far more effective (a.k.a. deadly) heroes: Big Daddy, a former cop falsely convicted of drug trafficking, and Hit-Girl, his eleven year old daughter. Big Daddy has spent the past six years training his little girl in all forms of mortal combat, hoping she would help him revenge her mother's death and her father's fall from grace, orchestrated by a local Mafia Boss. Enter blood, gore, and plenty of belly laughs...

Let me get straight to the point: yes, the film was funny and highly entertaining. However, initially I felt uneasy...

The Lucy Show: The Official Second Season

""The Lucy Show" DVD's Continue"
After releasing "The Lucy Show-Season 1" on DVD last summer, CBS/Paramount is releasing the second season on July 13th, 2010. This fabulous and entertaining sitcom began its second year on September 30th, 1963, and although the series was broadcast in black and white on CBS, the shows themselves were filmed in glorious color to take advantage of huge syndication sales in the years to come. In this 4 DVD boxset 28 wonderful color episodes are included along with the following bonuses: the original "Lucille Ball Comedy Hour Special with Bob Hope"; clips from the "Opening Night" and "CBS: The Stars Address" programs; newly recorded interviews; cast commercials; and more. "The Lucy Show" finished its second year at #6 on the all-important Nielsen Ratings chart cementing itself as a television hit. This season also marks Gale Gordon's first year in his co-starring role as Mr. Mooney.

The following are "The Lucy Show's" episodes from season 2 along with their airdates:...

Thank you Paramount
So glad the 2nd season of THE LUCY SHOW is coming. I am anxious to see them in near pristine condition. My understanding was that Lucille ordered all the color episodes of this series to be filmed with some sort of "soft filter" lens to smooth out her wrinkles!!!! Hence the reason why they may never be razor sharp visuals. But they should be free of dirt, scratches, splices and other imperfections visible on broadcast TV (and unofficial DVDs).

I will be picking this series up straight away, and yes, I certainly hope that Paramount will release the remaining 4 seasons in the near future.

The inclusion of the Lucille Ball/Bob Hope special is quite important on this set as it probably means that the later 1966 LUCY IN LONDON special will be included on whatever season set it is part of (it features Lucy Carmichael in London, but without Gale Gordon).

So, finally, with all the I LOVE LUCY episodes now on disc, and MPI releasing all the HERE'S LUCY...

I Love "The Lucy Show!"
The Lucy Show is Lucille Ball's follow up series to I Love Lucy. It was a very funny series, especially the years with Vivian Vance. This is a top ten series and Lucy won two Emmy awards for her work on this show. The laughs continue with the second season of the is wonderful series. This season also marks the first of any 'Lucy' series to be filmed in Color! The remastering they did with this set is spectacular! It looks as if it was filmed yesterday. The episodes are so funny, and if you want to laugh you must buy this set. If you enjoyed season one and enjoyed I Love Lucy over the years then you will love The second season of The Lucy Show. And if this DVD does well, the third season will be released quickly, so everyone go out and buy this wonderful series, and laugh along with Lucy and Vivian in living Color!

Kodocha: The Second Season (S.A.V.E. Edition)

Only 51 of 102 episodes available
The full series is 102 episodes, Funimation only released the first 51 before dropping the series. They keep releasing the first half in cheaper and cheaper sets (this set is about the same price as one DVD in the original release). The show is a lot of fun as the other reviews say, and it's a great price, but you can only buy half of the series.

not The Second Season but still good
this is not the second season this is only episode 24-51 T,T even though this show is really awesome i wish they dubbed the real season 2 (episode 51-102)
:( gaaaaaaaaaaaaah Dx akito just sounds so weird in Japanese D:

Cute series, can drive your friends crazy :O
I love Kodocha, it's hilarious to me, the characters are cute and it's full of energy. I watch it in English, the Japanese is good but Sana's voice is kind of irritating. That said, the series in any language has been said to be 'a high form of torture' by one of my guy friends, which is also funny. Other friends like the series, Sana's rapping annoys some people but I just think it's funny.
I enjoyed season 1 more than season 2, but if you liked season 1 you'll probably enjoy watching the next set.

This is episodes 25-51, called Season 2 here but it's not really (it's complicated). Ep. 1-51 only cover half the anime series, unfortunately Funimation doesn't seem like it's planning to license and release the rest of the series, so you will need to track down the Japanese version somewhere to watch the rest.

The manga is only 10 volumes, so you must know the anime has a lot of filler plots, but I found the anime different enough from the manga that they are...

Open House [Blu-ray]

2 1/2 stars: boring and uneventful
I watched this movie for two reasons: We love True Blood and never miss an episode, and since Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are featured on the cover, I was interested to see more of their acting. Secondly, because I work in Real Estate and thought the open house premise would be fun. Like an open house that doesn't just go bad, it goes slasher bad, awesome!

Sadly, it was a boring, run of the mill home invasion slasher/thriller. Anna Paquin was in the movie for 30 seconds, Stephen Moyer for about 5 minutes tops. After checking out the back and seeing Open House was directed by Andrew Paquin, both of those cameos now make sense. What better way to draw in all those True Blood fans then to have these two on the cover?

The movie just slowly progressed, the acting was fine but not impressive. The directing was typical, nothing wrong with it. The story has already been done time and again, and they missed the opportunity to explore some unique aspects of the...

For Sale - 3 Bedroom, 1 Basement Prison Cubicle
This doesn't have quite the plot that the DVD jacket suggests. Just skimming the jacket blurb, you might think this movie will be about a maniac or two taking up residence in the basement of a house for sale, then creeping out at night after new occupants have taken up residence there. That sounded like a promising premise that plays into a glancing fear many of us might have when we consider buying a house. Did the realtor conscientiously check all the basement cubbyholes, all the closets before locking up after every Open House?

But no, that isn't quite what this movie is about. If anything, it's a reversal of that more predictable theme. In this case, the sociopaths blatantly occupy the body of the house, while the rightful owner gets imprisoned in the basement, left to haunt and perhaps ultimately challenge the intruders.

This is a movie of few words, at least on the part of the male sociopath. There is no burden of back-story here, no Psycho-like epilogue...

HORROR, GORE, AND MINUS A PLOT....
When I chose to watch this movie, I thought it would be something I would enjoy. Not so much....

The story follows the journey of a divorced woman as she tries to sell her upscale home. We see numerous couples visiting the Open House held by the realtor.

Then one day, we are aware that a mysterious person is going down the basement stairs, and the realtor leaves without realizing it.

Next, a mysterious couple seemingly takes over the house, after first killing a couple of guests and tying up the woman who resides there.

From there, we catch a glimpse of one horrible scene after another, until finally, the carnage is over.

Or is it?

First, I thought that Anna Paquin would have a bigger role in this film but her scenes were brief. The other actors were unknown to me, and if I'd realized that "Rachel Blanchard" was NOT "Tammy Blanchard," whose work...

Hawaii Five-O
I am glad to reply regarding my satisfaction with my recent purchase from Amazon.
I just received 9 seasons of Hawaii Five-0, the main character played by Jack Lord is very dynamic and powerful actor and he makes the series. I watched some of the new series Five-0 that was released here a few weeks ago but it is badly cast and does not have the same impact and appeal to me and was disappointing. The original is the best.

Amazon got it for me in about two weeks. Great work Amazon, keep it up...

White Collar: The Complete First Season

Convicted of forging bonds, slick Neal Caffrey forges a new one with the FBI guy that nabbed him
Looks like the USA Network has got another banging hit in its lineup. WHITE COLLAR, an easy-breezy crime drama, swipes heavily from the buddy cop genre, and that this beaten-to-death premise (which owes a lot to 48 HOURS) works for this series is purely because of the appeal of the two leads, and specifically Matt Bomer. This is not to dis his semi-rumpled co-star Tim DeKay, but clearly this show rises or collapses on how effectively Bomer brings the sexy. Tim Dekay - while also charming in a more low-key sort of way - works best as Bomer's exasperated foil.

Sophisticated con artist Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer) - convicted of bond forgery but suspected of many other crimes - is hailed as "quite the Renaissance criminal." He has only three to four months left to serve in his prison sentence when Kate, the love of his life, breaks up with him and then amscrays for parts unknown. Demonstrating that a maximum-security prison isn't a deterrent if you're crazy in love, Caffrey...

Conned get enough...
of Neal Caffrey and Peter Burke. As another reviewer said..."maybe there's someone on television currently more rakish and dashing than Neal Caffrey. But, for the life of me, I'm drawing a blank."

Well, I don't think there is, and this character has the perfect blend of boyish charm, intelligence and cleverness to go along with that mischievous twinkle in his eye. Matt Bomer inhabits his character with an ease and grace which belie his youth. Tim DeKay as the ever put-upon straight man, Peter Burke, is the G-Man who, despite his best efforts, can't quite keep it under wraps that he's got a heart...which would explain his gorgeous, intelligent and even more put-upon wife, Elizabeth (Tiffani Thiessen), whose contributions are always on point. And then there's the quirky man's quirky, Neal's behind-the-scenes guy, Moz, perfectly played by Willie Garson.

So, the only question becomes ... how did the USA Network round up so many clever and witty writers to completely...

Loving this drama - need the DVD
I finally caught this show late in the season and couldn't get enough; now I need to start at the beginning so I'm ready for the DVD set now. The reviews for White Collar are positive because they can't be anything but that. I loved Robert Wagner in It Takes a Thief, and I loved Hardcastle and McCormick. For me, White Collar combines the two with the "bad" suave, charming and intelligent thief being directly under a lawman's watchful eye. The premise for the show isn't new but the drama itself is very fresh. I call this my guilty pleasure because I honestly couldn't turn the channel when I laid eyes on Neal. I was wowed by Matt Bomer's look and Neal Caffrey's charm and wit. However, any drama with a great mix of characters pleases me immensely and White Collar certainly has a fantastic array of characters, starting with Neal and Peter (expertly acted by Tim DeKay) and moving right on down the line. The writing is usually nicely twisted with just the right turns -- though the season...

Piranha: Roger Corman's Cult Classics [Blu-ray]

Get out of the water!
Where would we be without the venerable Roger Corman? Lovers of B-movie madness would likely have a lot more time on their hands to read books, interact with family, or take part in generally otherwise fulfilling life experiences had old Rog chosen a different career path. Fortunately, or unfortunately as the case may be, Corman sat out in Hollywood for three or four decades making low budget exploitation films. He also tried to cash in on every movie fad in modern cinema. And I do mean EVERY fad. You see, Roger had a dream to take an idea and make a profitable picture out of it that would entertain the masses. The problem was that someone else invariably had the idea first. Thus Lucas's "Star Wars" allowed Corman to unleash "Battle Beyond the Stars" on an unsuspecting public. Car chase movies saw Roger replying with "Grand Theft Auto" and "Eat My Dust." I could go on and on. There wasn't anything Corman couldn't do with someone else's idea. Perhaps the best example is "Piranha," a...

Camp Classic Deserves a Look
Joe Dante's Piranha is a very humorous spoof and a fine homage to Steven Spielberg's classic Jaws. Though plagued with poor acting from Bradford Dillman, Heather Menzies, and Keenan Wynn, this is definitely not the type of film that you would ever take seriously. The inside film jokes and cinema references add a lot of intelligent spice to the film's proceedings, but it is the cheesy yet effective special effects by Phil Tippett (Robocop) that make Piranha a must see for mosnter movie buffs. Watch out for the obviously fake piranha as they make a spectacular bloddy debacle of a children's summer camp. The DVD edition of Piranha has many elaborate features including a Joe Dante commenty, a making-of-documentary, film bloppers, and other theatrical trailers of Corman films. P.S. Joe Dante would later go on to direct such horror classics as The Howling and Gremlins.

THE PIRANHAS ARE EATING THE GUESTS
A justifiable cult classic, PIRANHA boasts an impressive pedigree. Oscar nominated screenwriter John Sayles; director Joe Dante (Gremlins); and some fine character actors: Bradford Dillman, Keenan Wynn, Dick Miller, Paul Bartel, Barbara Steele. The attacks are vicious and quickly paced so you don't pay too much attention to the cheesy special effects. There's satire about the military as well. There are some good suspense sequences, and I almost forgot: Body Snatcher's Kevin McCarthy is on board as the misguided scientist. The best of the subsequent spinoffs, PIRANHA is a great little horror classic.

Hawaii Five-O - The Complete Ninth Season

The Last Classic Season of 5-0 With Any Quality
Season 9 is arguably the last decent collection of episodes from the original Five-0 stable - I don't consider it to be nowhere near as good as when the show was at its zenith (seasons 3, 4, 5 & 6), but its good nevertheless. In fact, season opener, `Nine Dragons' is outstanding - a real rarity in the fact that it's a post season 6 episode that would probably feature in any fan's top ten list of all time greatest episodes.

So here we have `Nine Dragons' unabridged and thus coming in at circa 98 minutes. Print quality seems ok on this and other episodes - certainly much better than anything I've seen on TV here in the UK. Downside to this is that onscreen `dirt' (black flecks) can be seen from time to time in certain scenes on numerous episodes.

Sadly Season 9 is the last time we see contributions from Five-0 stalwarts Michael O'Herlihy (director) and Jerome Coopersmith (writer). O'Herlihy often helmed some of the best episodes the show had to offer, but here...

FIVE STAR SHOW but revised packaging not so great!
I'll skip the review of the show and get right to the actual product. Unlike the first eight seasons, which featured three separate, 2-disc cases inside the box, Season Nine features a single 6-disc case inside the box. While this doesn't create any problems for the discs, it does create problems for the viewer!

The discs themselves are stored one in each end of the case and four on page-type double disc holders. They are SECURE and don't come loose, so that's not the problem. Unfortunately, the episode descriptions are located INSIDE the case. So, if you actually want to read them, you must first REMOVE either disc one or six and hold it while you read. Secondly, the design of the case latching tabs means that some of the print is located UNDER the curvy latch mechanism which renders the text nearly impossible to read unless you twist things around until you are looking at it sideways.

Whoever the person is who thought up this ill-conceived storage case...

Hawaii Five-O: The Ninth Season
Compelling, gripping, hard boiled 1970s cop show. Love the sideburns, flowered shirts, platform shoes and bell bottomed pants. A reminder of a more relaxed time, before the world wide web provided instantaneous access to information: A time when forensic science was in its infancy and hard working cops used shoe leather on pavement to solve crimes.

The Ghost Writer [Blu-ray]

This One Is Really Good
"The Ghost Writer" is a Roman Polanski political thriller of the first order. It is very cleverly plotted with gripping suspense and narrative drive that pulls you into the story. Some movies of late have seemed endless; in this one I was completely unaware of time passing and was completely enthralled by this story of the deepest intrigue. It's full of conspiracies, and the whole thing is done in a very classy, sophisticated manner that will remind you of Hitchcock at his very best. It's engrossing and involving.
The acting is top-notch with Ewan McGregor very effective as the ghost writer who has been brought in to liven up the memoirs of a former prime minister (played extremely well by Pierce Brosnan). He is a Tony Blair figure who has been fingered for war crimes by one of his former cabinet ministers. He has ordered the arrest and rendering out of Britain of suspects so that they could be tortured for information.
The movie begins in gloomy, leaden weather on the...

The Best Suspense Film of 2010
Watching this film for the second time I was struck by how great of a director Roman Polanski is. This is a director, who at the age of 76 can still direct a high-minded suspense thriller that doesn't rely on violence or even plot to drive the suspense; a a throwback to classic suspense films, driven by atmosphere and directorial skill.

Ewan McGregor plays the unnamed ghost writer hired to ghostwrite the memoirs of former British Prime Minister Adam Lang (Pierce Brosnan) after Lang's previous ghostwriter dies under mysterious circumstances. Soon after the Ghost arrives at Lang's beach house, where he's staying with his wife Ruth (Olivia Williams) and assistant Amelia (Kim Cattrall), controversy erupts over Lang's alleged involvement in handing terrorist suspects over to the CIA to be tortured.

Many recognizable faces appear in The Ghost Writer including James Belushi, Timothy Hutton, and Tom Wilkinson, in a terrific bit role. 95-year-old Eli Wallach also...

Art and the Artist
This movie is bound to raise some ire and all for the wrong reasons. The controversy surrounding Polanski will dominate the argument. I feel that is incredibly unfair to every one else who has worked on this movie. So I am going to separate the art from the artist.

In what has to be one of the best casting decisions, Pierce Brosnan plays Adam Lang the former Prime Minister of UK. Embroiled in a controversy regarding the rendition program, he has sought refuge in America. Ewan McGregor (he is never given a name) is hired as a ghost writer after the original one dies in a mysterious accident.

Your average thriller would start out with the base setup and build on the tension leading upto the finale. But in Ghost Writer the tension is always palpable. Even in the most mundane of scenes you are never allowed to settle. The remarkable background score by Alexandre Desplat and the camera work of Pawel Edelman which paints predominantly in varying shades of bleakness...

Here we are at the seventh, and final, season of the Melissa Joan Hart series, Sabrina The Teenage Witch. Our fair Sabrina has left college and has now joined the workforce as a journalist for Scorch magazine. The first episode of the season, "Total Sabrina Live", provides the conclusion to the Season 6 finale ("I Fall To Pieces"); but with no "previously on" segment to explain what's happened before, it doesn't make any sense to new viewers.

Even though I've seen most of the...

The Sweeney Series One

Regan & Carter, getting Brahms, sleeping with birds, rounding up grass, and nickin' blaggers.
If you don't know your Mockney slang (Cockney rhyming slang), you might have some difficulty following one of the grittiest cop shows on either side of the Atlantic. Long before NYPD Blue was catching the attention of our FCC censors, The Sweeney (Scotland Yard's Flying Squad of plain clothes detectives) was thrust upon UK viewers in the mid 70's, with some harsh language, occasional topless girls, and the over the top, violent antics of the fiercest cops in England.

John Thaw, as Detective Inspector Jack Regan, perfectly fills what is possibly his best known role, apart from Inspector Morse. Dennis Waterman, as Regan's partner, Sergeant George Carter, is equally talented in fisticuffs, which would come in handy in Waterman's next series, Minder, where he played bodyguard for hire, Terry McCann.

Regan often twisted the rules of the law to apprehend his criminals, usually convincing the apprehensive Carter to help. Regan was often in trouble with his superiors,...

Before he was Morse John Thaw was Reagan
American viewers will know John Thaw from 'Morse' but for many British viewers he will always be 'Jack Reagan' of Scotland Yard's Flying Squad.

The Sweeney was complusive viewing in the nineteen seventies. The Sweeney is cockney slang for the Flying Squad a group of elite dectectives who battle organised crime, armeed robbery and other crimes carried out by professional criminals.

THe success of the show is due to the partership of John Thaw as Inspecter Jack Reagan and his sidekick Sargent George Carter played by Denis Waterman. Reagan and Carter spend as much of their time drinking, smoking and chasing women as they do catching criminals, this is the seventies after all. Morse may use his brains to catch the criminal, Reagan is more likely to use his fists.

Unlike other British dectective shows the Sweeney does not involve complex murder cases set amougst the middle classes. The bad guys in the Sweeney are working class armed robbers, professional...

Get yer trousers on, you're nicked.
If you're a Brit this TV show is as famous as Starsky & Hutch, so allow me to address the US consumer for a moment.

Remember when US TV comedy was mostly cringe inducing twaddle, but British TV comedy was genius stuff like Fawlty Towers and Good Neighbors? What you DIDN'T know was that serious British TV drama was often just as brilliant, but didn't translate as well ("too British") and had no hope of a US licensing deal to allow you to see it.

And thus we have THE SWEENEY, a ground-breaking show about Britain's elite coppers The Flying Squad. (Cockney rhyming slang: Flying Squad = Sweeney Todd = The Sweeney.) Previous British police shows had been relatively genteel affairs, but THE SWEENEY exposed the raw side of street policing. Inspector Jack Regan (John Thaw of Inspector Morse fame) is a born cop and a stone predator in the crime jungle. He will bend the rules when necessary to achieve rough justice. His sidekick George Carter (Dennis Waterman) often...

Goodnight Moon & More Great Bedtime Stories

Goodnight Moon still a classic while learning new skills
To improve vocabulary, comprehension, and fine motor skills, this October a series of DVDs comes out of Scholastic Storybook Treasures where you can now introduce your child to Sign Language!

Goodnight Moon...and more great bedtime stories
1 Disc DVD being released October 26, 2010

This DVD has a running time of 36 minutes plus extras of sign language vocabulary, comprehension quizzes, alphabet fingerspelling, and a read-along feature. The first story is Margaret Wise Brown's "Goodnight Moon", illustrated by Clement Hurd. This story always makes me think of the Christopher Walken version of him reading this story and the Animaniacs animated version of it which makes is nostalgic and hilarious all at the same time. It is adapted from the book with a musical score. The second story is Carter Goodrich's "A Creature Was Stirring" which is a new adaptation of the classic Christmas Poem. The third story is "Gladys Goes Out To Lunch" by Derek Anderson where kids...

Goodnight Moon - classic story brought to DVD
My daughter is now 23 months old, and hardly a night has gone by when we have not read Goodnight Moon. It is a part of our daily routine. When I found a version on DVD with sign language, I jumped at the chance to get it.

We have watched it a couple of times now. My daughter is enjoying it very much. The only thing that keeps me from rating it 5-star is that the sign language interpreter never smiles. In fact, her face is almost sour looking. As an adult I find that distracting. All-in-all though, still a good purchase.

Long overdue!
Amazing ASL story-telling combined with classic and new children's stories made this DVD series an instant hit at our house, where we have a bilingual deaf child being raised to speak English and use American Sign Language. As parents this video really helps us see fluent signing along with the English translation. For our child these videos are just charming and fun. If I had to find something to criticize, I'd say there just aren't enough stories! Three stories on each DVD and only three DVDs in the series, we would love to see a lot more like this.

The Game: The Third Season

New Season!!!
Just heard on the radio that BET has picked up the rights to THE GAME and will be producing more new episodes. They are set to start this fall (yay!). They have signed contracts with all the original actors and actresses with the exception of one, the character known as Jason. He is currently a regular on Burn Notice so he will probably just do guest appearances.

Love This Show
I only have seasons one and two and plan to purchase three as well. The only thing I that I didn't like was that they changed the music. The songs on the show went so well with whatever was going on so I was disappointed that they changed songs on the DVD. Otherwise than that I love this show and can't wait to see the season premiere for season 4 on January 11, 2001

This is Great News!
I'm so glad they are releasing all 3 season's of The Game. One of the best african american shows in a long time, only second to Girlfriends.

The Mothers-in-Law: The Complete Series

The Mothers-In-Law Wonderfully Remastered And Complete!
MPI Home Video just keeps bringing out more rarities to please their fans! They planned to release The Mothers-In-Law last year in 2009, but decided to do both seasons- which is the entire series- together in one set. They are not rushing the release of this series as they are remastering the original film into pristine condition, like they have been doing for Here's Lucy and the Lucy specials and have stated to me that this set will be LOADED with bonus materials! After hearing all this, I can't wait until July 27, 2010 to be able to see this darling sitcom again!

This sitcom was the complete project of Desi Arnaz after he resigned as President from Desilu Studios in 1963, which followed his divorce from Lucy. He put together this show along with the same writers from I Love Lucy- Bob Carroll Jr. and Madelyn Davis. By the time he had scripts and the cast it was ready for it's premiere in 1967. Desi produced, directed and even guest starred in The Mothers-In-Law...

The Wait is finally over!
I just received "The Mothers-in-Law" DVD and it's everything a classic TV lover, like myself, would want. Bonus features, commentary from Kaye Ballard, behind-the-scenes footage, vintage cast commercials, sponser plugs, WOW! Not to mention that the episodes were re-mastered in all their wonderful 1960's glory. It's funny to see some of the colors vividly especially the Hubbard's orange couch in season one. The price for this DVD set is well worth the money. considering you get all 56 episodes in one box set.
I think one of the highlights is that Kaye sings the lyrics to the crazy theme song which I never knew existed. It's hystercial just like the music itself. Also, the pilot with a different "Susie" played by Kay Cole (who was she, anyway?) instead of Deborah Walley is an interesting sight to behold. Never, ever seen and the opening and closing credits are also different, but amusing. Kaye does point out that she was very sad to see Roger C. Carmel leave after the first season...

MOTHER Lode!!!
THE MOTHERS-IN-LAW: THE COMPLETE SERIES is everything a classic TV fan ever dreamed a DVD set could be. DVD producer Don Wingate and DVD executive producer Jim Pierson have done a sensational job!!! Loaded with bonus features, excellent print quality, attractive packaging, and bargain priced!! This folks is how it should be done and the proof is in the sales, on it's second day of release THE MOTHERS-IN-LAW was in the top 40 selling DVDS of any kind on Amazon.com - as it was on day one! When I wrote this there was not another television show older than the last decade in the Top 100 - heck, there's not anything else in the Top 100 made before 1990 beyond two Disney animated classics and TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, all of them in the back of the chart!! This unassuming little show from almost a half century ago is holding it's own in sales against today's hottest TV shows and multi-million budget dollar movies! That a sitcom seldom seen in the last 40 years could rack up such high sales...

Project Runway: Season 7

Project Runway finally back in stride
Project Runway has always been a true guilty pleasure that has provided much entertainmeent. The first 5 seasons were on Bravo and the show shined for it managed to provide contestants with unique and quirky personalities, great talent, a great host in Heidi Klum and very unique challenges that allowed the contestants to show their true capabilities. Then there was the beloved fashion guru Tim Gunn who is the glue that holds the whole show together with hist wit, personality and spot on criticisms. No judges could be more perfect here than Michael Kors ann Nina Garcia. There was a magic to all this that just made the show one of the best reality shows on tv. Some thought it started to die down with season 5 but I totally disagree. Every viewer will have a favorite season based on the contestants that were on each season. It hugely comes down to them and their personalities and talent. My favorite season was season 2 with Daniel. For many it was season 4 with Christian...

Formula Is Getting Tired But Still Enjoyable
If you have been watching this for seven seasons, as I have, you can virtually watch this show with a clipboard in hand, checking off everything that must take place within the show. This includes right down to what each judge is sure to say as his or her pet peeve. (Nina Garcia's is, "It looks cheap.") The show also picks the personalities surest to conflict with others and then promotes that agitation for all it is worth. Personally the main reason I kept watching is to see interesting challenges and the creations which emante from them. The rest is just window dressing, stale and overdone.

It is not that this season is worse than the others. It is that it is the same.

The above said, there are some very good designers who make some very compelling designs. There are also some designers who create true atrocities. The best of the designers were Seth, Emilio, and Maya. MIla also does a fairly good job, especially on sportswear. However, her technique of...

Back In It's Stride
I agree with many of the other comments - it was really nice to see the show return to its roots. It definitely is not the same based in LA. New York just seems far more organic to the fashion world. I really liked seeing the normal judges more often. I also think some of the contestants in this show were, on average, more talented than in some of previous series. There are no huge clashes of character, like in series one, but interesting designers all the same.

My only complaint is the lack of any special features to the DVD. Clearly it is put out there as quick as possible, without any extra care taken with providing extra info for fans. I would really like to know what happened to the designers after the show -- say 6 months down the road. Did their careers take off or not? Past DVD's made a lazy attempt to do this, but at least it was something... hence my 3 star rating.

Overall, if you've seen all the other Project Runways, you're probably going to buy this...

Red Vs Blue: Season 6 Reconstruction

More Than a New Installment: An Evolution
The Red vs. Blue series is famous for its running gags, quick wit, stinging satire, and nonsensical story lines. Lasting six seasons and 100 episodes (plus special videos not related to the main story arc), The Blood Gulch Chronicles was the defining moment for machinima.

Reconstruction changes the essential formula that, in turn, make the series even better than before:
- instead of telling the story from the point of view of the RvB soldiers, the outsider Freelancer Agent Washington narrates the story
- the style takes risk by blending its signature comedy routines with dark and compelling drama.
- science fiction elements are no longer relegated to the category "plot devices." These surprisingly smart elements now propel the plot forward and enhance the emotional impact of the plot.
- the cinematography and editing are handled with skill and nuance, giving this product a more polished and traditional presentation as opposed to the uniquely gritty...

Red vs Blue is back!!!
"A new enemy. A new hero. The same bunch of rejects." Red vs Blue: Reconstruction picks up where Blood Gulch Chronicles (and Recovery One) left off. The dvd contains all nineteen episodes compiled together in the form of a movie (like with previous RvB seasons), with deleted scenes, outtakes, behind-the scenes footage, and a sneak peek at Rooster Teeth's upcoming new series Red vs Blue the Animated Series! This dvd is perfect for longtime fans of RvB as well as newcomers to the series (though it wouldn't hurt to watch the previous seasons first).

"Wow. What a ringing endorsement. I am FILLED with confidence."-Private Leonard Church

Loving that RvB!
You guys are probably sick of my praising RvB, but I gotta do what I gotta do! :)

I know a lot of people are not the biggest fans of the Project Freelancer story, but if you've been a fan of the longest running web series then you really need to check this out because the story gets better and better. To see how the crew at Rooster Teeth took their first season and evolved their story to this point is awesome. Their jokes get bigger, better, and their characters back stories just keep you wondering what the heck that next season is going to focus on. They never disappoint. Even if you aren't a Halo player (which I'm not) the writing is excellent and there is something for everyone in the world of RvB - are you a Griff, a Sarge, maybe a Caboose? Maybe we're all a little bit of each of them. :)

A Sense of Wonder

whemmer
An informative and deeply moving biographical play written and performed by Miss Lee, who portrays Rachel Carson in her late years as she tells the story of her early love of writing, her discovery of science, her reaction to the impact of "Silent Spring", her love of and caring for her family and her own struggles with the cancer which eventually killed her. Too short!

A wonderful portrayal of Rachel Carson.
An intimate look into the life and values of this remarkable woman. The viewer comes away feeling a sense of connection with one of the most important thinkers of the last century.

A Sense of Wonder
This is a very good performance of an actress portraying Rachel Carson, author of Silent Spring, being interviewed. It is thoughtful and you feel that she is having a visit with you. It is full of surprises about the life of Rachel Carson and the interviews with real family and friends at the end seals the enjoyment of this quiet gem.

Friends: The Complete 10th Season (Repackage)

All You Need is Friends :)
Let me start out by saying that I probably owe my life to Friends. They kept me going through some tough times, and I always knew I could look forward to Thursday nights at 8pm. Now that Friends has ended, while I am terribly sad, I now can buy these DVDs and watch Friends whenever I want.

Season 10 is wonderful. I must say that I prefer the newer seasons, probably from season 6 on. The Monica and Chandler relationship is amazing, and Phoebe and Mike are perfect together. Of course, we still have Rachel and Ross, who are the best couple. Going into season 10, there were some questions: what would happen with Monica and Chandler's adoption ideas? what about Rachel and Ross? What would Rachel and Joey turn into? And then we knew Phoebe would be getting married...

All of these questions are answered in season 10. I have to say that my favorite episode is The Last One, which is an hour long episode that is truly remarkable. I had high expectations for the last...

i will miss FRIENDS
i own all the 9 seasons available so far and will buy 10 as soon as it comes out. i agree with some of the reviews that season 10 wasn't as good as some of the other seasons, like 5 and 6, but it IS still Friends.

and to all those who think this that the Friends are disfunctional and highly unrealistic, therefore the show is stupid, i just have to say -- since when do you watch anything coming out of Hollywood for a glimpse of reality? the show is very entertaining, therefore it serves its purpose. i'll miss it!!

I feel like I'm betraying an old friend, but...
...I just don't like this season.

I own all 10 seasons on DVD, and I have always watched the entire set of discs for each season within a couple of weeks (if even that long!) of buying them but I just can't do that with season 10.

I've owned this for nearly two months and haven't finished the second disc. I have no desire to... The acting seems poor, the story lines seem forced and I really don't find the stories to be that great. Yes, there are still good moments in this season, but for the most part I think it's just a big yawn.

I love this show, don't get me wrong. I started watching back in 1995 and watched faithfully up until the series finale aired. I even cried knowing it was over. But really, what I miss is the classic moments of Friends. And I have them all on DVD so I can watch them any time I want, so it's not ALL bad. Especially considering the show went waay downhill when they started toying with the idea of Joey and Rachel as a...

Return Of The One-Armed Swordsman

Classic Shaw Brother Sword actioner
Pretty good sequel to The One-Armed Swordsman also starring Jimmy Wang Yu. There's more action here and the fight choreography pretty neat considering that its an early 70s production. I make this distinction coz the wire work in 60s and early 70s productions weren't as sophisticated as the wire work in movies of the late 70s and early 80s when Ching Siu Tung(aka the Gerry Anderson of the East)entered the industry and raised standards in the wirefu genre.
Story's alittle naff here and there but that can be put down to the character's stupidity and lack of common sense but if you don't try and think too much into it you'll have a good time and enjoy Liu Chia Liang and Tang Chia's early fight choreography. Picture quality and sound excellent! And its great to watch a kungfu or wire fu movie in the original mandarin or cantonese sound track!! A big Hurrah for Chivalry!!!

Chop Sockey
The follow up to "The One Armed Swordsman" tells the tale of the one armed swordsman living a peaceful farmer's life until eight warriors using unique weapons and tactics force all swordsmen in China to fight them to the death. The reason why this group wants to have such complete dominance in the sword fighting world is never fully explained but as the adventure unfurls the message seems to be that violence begets violence. The film fails to meet the cinematic heights of the original since the enemies have little to no background or motivation that makes them compelling. The fighting is well choreographed and will entertain. The extra features are slim but it the film stock is well restored like other Dragon Dynasty releases. This DVD is best for completist who want all of the "One-Armed" style of films.

2D(o)pe!!!
Wow!This guy really makes me wanna cut off my right arm & learn the one armed style(lol). This movie is sooo sick,it has way more action than the 1st one, good storyline,& even sicker weapons(THERE'S A SWORD GUN!!!)I bought this the same day as "5 Element Ninja's" & this movie had a greater impact.COPP IT!

The Rendering

Excellent acting wasted on a B-movie!
Warning, this is a frank and honest review of this movie; and even though I am slightly biased, as a Shannen Doherty fan, I intend to be as honest as possible for the benefit of other customers.

This is one of a string of B-movies Shannen Doherty has recently filmed in Canada, the others being 'Striking Poses' and 'Another Day'. In 'The Rendering', Shannen Doherty plays a young artist named Sarah, who gets stabbed by a lunatic named Theodore, played by Peter Outerbridge. 10 years later, Theodore's ready to get out of the slammer, and blackmails Sarah into speaking well of him at his parole hearing. He's framed her husband, Michael, to get him into jail, where Theodore supposedly runs the show, and can have Michael killed at his will. As soon as he gets out, the story begins...

Admittedly, the storyline does sound unlikely. However, it works, it makes you think, and provides for a decent two hours of entertainment. Shannen Doherty does an excellent job with...

The Rendering
This is a terrific movie because I have watch movie over many times. It
captures your attention.

My SHannen
Shannen may not be the best actress around, but since I like her so much - she will always be the best as far as I'm concerned. Honestly - I bought most of her dvd-movies simply because she was the lead actor. I had a great time watching her movies!

Antarctica

3 and 1/2 stars
I'm not going to revisit the plot basics, which can be seen elsewhere. I found the movie enjoyable but somewhat frustrating because just as I started to get into a character or relationship, the film switched gears and took up another plot line with different characters. Yes, everyone is tied together along the way (or at the end), but a tighter focus on fewer relationships would have allowed for more development and depth. Too much screen time was squandered. Was a UFO subplot necessary? Also, the over the top mother seemed too campy for the basic, overall tone of the film. I felt the film attempted too much and came up a little short.

Very sexy, often funny and definitely not predictable
A magnificent Israeli film. The opening sequences might make you think this is one of those self indulgent, obscure, plotless, nihilistic wonderings of the director's imagination. Fortunately it isn't. It quickly develops into a look at an intricate web of relationships which unfold with a clever twist around each corner. Sexy and funny as well.

Excellent Second Film by Israeli Director
We were quite taken by the excellent film making by this director; his second gay film from Tel Aviv. We first viewed it on Netflix, then ordered the copy for our library. Checking out what other films made by Hochner, we were disappointed in his first effort (Bad Boys),but saw remarkable maturity from the first effort to the Antarctica film. Several actors from Bad Boys appear in this superior film; also matured as well! It is sexy, lovely photography, and deserves several viewings!

Ingreedients

Not as informative
This movie only describes trans fats in detail. I thought it would talk about many food additives like HFCS, colorings, preservatives, artificial flavors, etc. It did mention aspartame but left no concrete information about it. It was interesting to me that the movie maker was a nurse who did not even know what "partially hydrogenated oils" were.

This is an okay movie for true beginners, those who eat fast food and don't ever read their food labels. If you already take the time to read labels and buy healthy organic foods rather than fast food then skip this one.

I am a vegan of over 8 years and was hoping to find a good film on food additives, but this is not it :(

Must watch for all families
This documentary opened our eyes wide to the dangers of processed foods. The film maker establishes the connection early on between well-known household brand names and the increased profits these companies make from food additives that result in longer shelf life, visual appeal, and of course sensory (taste) appeal. Thus the apt title, "InGREEDients." The film definitely focusses on hydrogenated oils, but also discusses other food additives in brief including coloring, artificial flavorings and sweeteners, and a list of chemicals many of which are unknown to but consumed unquestioningly by the general public. The point is so well made concerning hydrogenated oils, that the viewer was left with only concerns about the many other additives in our packaged foods, especially those geared to children. The film producer's background and experience as a nurse, as well as expert testimony from researchers and public health workers, lent credence to the concerns expressed in this film,...

Lots of important information in this!
This information should be seen by everyone interested in their good health and that of their children's. I learned some new info that is very important. We all need to spread the word. The info was well presented.

Finally I'd like to comment on the packaging which I'm a bit disappointed with compared to the previous 2 volumes, it's a standard plastic dvd case with no slipcover, feels kinda cheap.

Overall Squidbillies is an excellent show and this dvd is no exception. I highly recommend it to fans and newcomers alike.

Don't repeat Squidbillies quotes in public
The quotes just don't make sense. Unless you've seen and enjoy the show. So they come across as random. Or even downright inappropriate. And when you deliver it in the southern accent, you'll get some strange looks. Or get an unwanted reputation for being crazy or outright insane.

Don't be surprised if bystanders call the police on you.

You've been warned.

Great for a laugh
If you appreciate the finer aspects of life in rural Southern states, you need to buy this DVD for a good laugh;

How the Earth Was Made: Complete Season 2

Informative, Interesting, Exciting, and as always filled with dramatic narration!
How the Earth Was Made - Season 2
13 Episodes on 4 Discs, released June 29, 2010

"How the Earth Was Made" is the History channel's detailed look at specific areas of the planet and how they came to be shaped the way they are. The title of the series sounds like they would explain how Earth came into being with the Big Bang theory in one episode and boom! be done, but this is the second season so they've really stretched out individual landmarks.

This series starts off with places like The Grand Canyon and its carving by the Colorado river among other things, Mt. Vesuvius and its ability to possibly kill 3 million people in Naples if it erupts, and then in the third episode finally gets into the actual planet formation or "Birth of the Earth". Does this mean it wasn't covered in the first season?? Other great episodes include Sahara where you find out it was once covered in ice and grew lots of plantlife, and much more in the way of mountains, valleys,...

Ever Moving, Ever Changing Planet
Did you know that North America and Scotland were once connected? Why are there remnants of sea creatures on top of mountains and mountains under the sea? This is one of the most fascinating series I've ever watched. We humans think we have so much control over the future of this planet. Yes, recycling and being "green" will help, but ultimately, the planet will do what the planet has always done -- change on its own, whether humans do anything or not. I highly recommend this truly amazing series.

A must have for science teachers!
I teach middle school science and live in the Pacific Northwest. Being so close to Mt. St. Helens makes it easy to get students interested in volcanoes. This set contains an excellent explanation of the events that took place surrounding the eruptions at Mt. St. Helens. The other movies are equally good. These videos are informative, yet not at all boring. They move quickly.

Rhoda: Season Three

Great to see it but.....
Ok. It's great to see this series on DVD. But I just don't understand why some of these episodes are edited. Why is Shout using edited versions? So far I've purchased the 3 seasons and some of these episodes are edited. I'd say about 3 or 4 per season. For example in season 3 there is an episode called "Meet the Levys". Years ago I saw the episode and there is a scene where a woman keeps getting on the same elevator thinking she's going up and when the door opens she's still on the ground floor. After 4th time she gets back on the elevator with Rhoda and Gary and says something very funny. I haven't seen that scene in over 20 years. On the reruns the whole scene is cut out. When I was watching the dvd it it looked like it wasn't and I said, "Finally I get to see the whole scene and the funny remark the lady says." Well. The scene was included but not all of it. She gets off the elevator for the 4th time and the doors shut and the scene was cut there. In the original she gets back on...

Best Sitcom Ever
I am so glad and appreciative of Shout Factory, and the multitude of other Rhoda show rooters, for keeping this series afloat. It has to be the most underrated sitcom in television history. Still, with 17 Emmy nominations and 2 big wins for stars Valerie Harper and Julie Kavner, who center the show, it is in terms of Emmy acknowledgement the second most successful sitcom spin-off in television history behind Frazier, which itself is merely an upside down Rhoda. In this season, Rhoda and Joe separate, and The Separation episode, although very sad, is arguably the best episode of any sitcom ever (right up there with Rhoda's One is a Number and The Mary Tyler Moore Show's Chuckles Bites the Dust.) Sure, it is sad, but it also is poignant, and I can see why some viewers left (at least until the next season when Rhoda became more of a top 20 regular again). It was just too painful for some people to watch, but if you did, you laughed a lot, were encouraged by how strong a woman can be...

LOL!
I now have all three seasons of Rhoda and it's just as much fun to watch as it was in the 1970s. I always liked Rhoda's character in The Mary Tyler Moore show more than I liked Mary, she was flawed and very human. Her own show, set in NY, is delightful. Nancy Walker as Rhoda's mother Ida is without a doubt the very best depiction of a Jewish mother ever filmed because she is really ALL mothers rolled into one. The third season is very special because of the appearances of Ron Silver as Gary Levy. Silver's Gary is a gem, obnoxious and very lovable. I wish Sliver was still with us, he died much too young, but at least he's here on Rhoda. All the secondary characters are beautifully full and unique. A great series!

Caillou's Fun Outside!

Caillou at his finest!
My almost-four-year-old granddaughter can't get enough Caillou! She has loved him and his family for over two years now. She doesn't mind watching the same two DVDs over and over again, but I needed a change, since I had the dialogue from our first two memorized! We were all thrilled that this DVD does NOT have the puppets that bothered her so much on some other DVDs. She even commented that he seems to have grown up a little and acts more like "a big boy" now. We catch Caillou every chance we get on Sprout TV, but the DVDs are great to have on hand when traveling, or when it's three more hours before Sprout has him scheduled.

Awesome!
I think this is awesome. It's the only Caillou dvd we own...atleast until todays order comes in. We watch Caillou on PBS Sprout every night but this was a purchase I made for a recent trip we took and I'm so happy I did. It was nice to have a video with us that we could tolerate in the car. My kids are 1 and 3 so they don't use headphones yet. Caillou is so sweet and not a brat in this video. Love it! My daughter has learned so much watching him and you can really see it when she plays by herself (well with her imaginary friends- all are named from characters on Caillou). Would recommend it, even giving at a bday gift this weekend :)

Good for little ones
It's a most recent version of Caillou, which my little one (22mos) loves. The earlier versions of Caillou show the tantrums of the main character, which I try to avoid as my little one likes to imitate.

SAD CYPRESS (Agatha Christie's Poirot)

Go Aggie !!!
Devilishly clever plot, richly woven tapestry of characters, fine oerformances by Suchet and numerous British actors whose faces have graced Midsomer, Foyle's War and other fine productions. If you don't enjoy this the first time you see it, you are destined not to like Agatha much at all. But Suchet's cloak is amazingle consistent and brilliant.

One of the best!
The plot, characters and production in general makes this one of the best Poirot's I can remember. I recommend it highly.

My Kids ages 2 and 3 love this video! I actually enjoy watching it myself. The Music is GREAT, and The kids learn some values.

Love Cowboy Dan!
My granddaughters watch this video over and over and have memorized all the songs. I bought a 2nd copy so we have one for the van. I love Cowboy Dan's upbeat and positive Christian messages for kids.

Paranormal Cops: The Complete Season One

great show!!
yeah it took place in Chicago I believe supposedly a great city or was it philly?? somewhere over there anyways was a great show I am somewhat amazed that these cops took such an interest in the paranormal that they had a whole company and everything. It's great this guy was very open minded on issues involving the paranormal and I saw the episode where the guys' working basement was haunted and it was really very good and entertaining.I say kudos for cops getting involved in this.did they cancel this show?what a shame they always cancel the good ones....

Why only 1 season?
I ran across this show on-line by accident, and after watching all the episodes, I'm not quite sure why it
didn't get a second season. I found it to be as good or better than other paranormal shows that have been
on the air for years. Maybe A&E didn't promote it enough, who knows? It's a shame though, as I felt that
the investigative skills of Tom, Ron and the other police officers and technicians added a greater legitimacy
to the CPD. I also like that they said a prayer of protection before each case - smart move as who knows
what's really out there? And if I ever found myself needing the services of such a group? I do believe that
these guys would be at the top of my list.

Real Characters
It is a shame this show only ran one season! The investigators are so east coast cop! Rough around the edges and intense. The ghosthunting was a little lacking in organization and the dependence on the psychic a little much. I like the stories and I liked the crew. Pure fun to watch

WWE: Satan's Prison - The Anthology of the Elimination Chamber

16 Tons Of Steel
Todd Grisham host this DVD anthology of every Elimination Chamber contest to date including the 2005 edition with Chris Benoit making this the very first DVD that Chris Benoit has been featured on since his death in 2007. You will also hear from various past contestants in this match throughout the presentation including Batista, John Cena, Edge, and John Morrison.

World Champion Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Booker T vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Kane vs. Chris Jericho - This was the first ever Chamber match & everyone looked like they could win the belt as one point or another and this match had a bunch of moments in itself. Like RVD jumping off the walls like he was Spider Man and even leaping off the top of one of the cells onto HHH & injuring his throat in the process...and even HHH's performance after that injury is something worth watching.
Survivor Series 02

World Champion Triple H vs. Goldberg vs. Kevin Nash vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho vs. Randy...

:O
Tired of your kids saying John Cena is the best? Show them this dvd to show them the golden ages of WWE. That's why i got it so later on in life if my wife has kids and they watch wwe. I'll show them this.

PREPARE TO ENTER SATAN"S STRUCTURE!
WWE has released another dvd that focuses on 1 match (the other being Bloodbath from, I think 03 or 05? And the awesome HIAC set). The Elimination Chamber is one of the most demonic structures ever invented (I still think HIAC is THE most demonic structure, but EC is just right under it). For those that havent seen a EC match, don't remember them, or just ordered the ppvs or them, this set is for you. They have every EC Match from SSeries 02 (the first) to EC 2010. SO let's get to em!!!

Please note: Don't remember all of what happened in these matches because I haven't seen them in awhile. I;m giving a review now before re-watching on purpose because I do don't want to give all the good stuff away. If I did, what's the point in buying since you'd already know the good parts? I may throw in some good parts to generate interests though.

HHH (c) vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Booker T vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Kane vs. Chris Jericho - this was the first EC match. a lot of people...

Saving Grace: The Final Season

Not as good as seasons 1+2, disappointing DVD-set
I loved the first two seasons, but felt that the third and final season wasn't nearly as good most of the time. (There were exceptions.) Let me first say that I think the ending fit and made sense, so that's not what disappointed me. But a lot of the other stuff seemed very disjointed and often meaningless to me. Crime plots were suddenly 'solved' in a minute because the writers didn't bother writing a good development about how the cops solved the crime. An important new characters goes through one weird change after another: A battered girlfriend who doesn't even dare to leave the house or talk to anyone; then she's in a coma, wakes up and suddenly doesn't speak English anymore; she then skips from country to country and through all kinds of jobs (all of which she's excellent at?!); then she turns out to be a millionaire - meth-addicted suicidal religious girl with a closer link to Earl than Grace. By the way, with the exception of the first episodes she's far from a doormat, so why...

Only gets better...
While not released on DVD at the time of this review, I watched the entirety of Season 3 of "Saving Grace" a second time (from my DVR) in preparation for the Season 4 (and final season) on March 29. I can say without hesitation, it is the best season yet, powerful, funny, and lyrical, this is the rare show that only gets better with each passing season. Most noticeably this time, the police stories are the strongest they have ever been. The direction is absolutely hypnotic. Holly Hunter, as wild Detective Grace Hanadarko, has re-estblished herself with this show as a force to be reckoned with. Hunter is beautiful as ever (at age 52), and at the top of her game. Scenes that stand out from this season are Hanadarko's interview of a rape victim...a chilling piece of work that cuts between her inteview of the victim and her fellow detectives walk of the crime scene, Hunter's interview carried in voiceover. It's a scene that reminds us of who Grace is...for all of her wild,...

WHY IS THIS OVER?
At first I didn't care for the show but somehow I kept tuning in to watch it and pretty soon I could hardly wait for the next week's episode. This was a WONDERFUL series that touched you on many different levels....so why did they only do 4 seasons of it? With all the garbage that's on TV now and that keeps coming back season after season (for ex. Keeping Up with the Kardashians which is a total ZERO) why would they take Saving Grace off the air after only 4 seasons and WHY did it have to end the way it did?! I was totally surprised & upset with the ending and I'm still upset about it.....it was totally unexpected and really different from the way other shows end, which makes it unique again, but I still didn't like the ending. I feel like I've had a personal loss myself.
