
Well-done German-made documentary on Composer/Performer Previn with an hour of Classical Quartet performances as bonuses
Andre Previn is a true renaissance man. He is a composer (of jazz pieces, classical symphonies and has composed 2 contemporary operas). He has been married four times (including two to "celebrities" - songwriter Dory Previn and actress Mia Farrow) and has multiple children from the multiple marriages.
The 58-minute portrait of Previn that forms the core of this DVD was filmed in 2009by two German directors. It presents a very balanced portrait of the artist by having his "celebrity friends" interview him. We have opera singer Renee Fleming (whi starred in Previn's first opera "A Streetcar Named Desire" and violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter (for who he composed another piece). Playwright Tom Stoppard (a Previn friend, who secured Previn to compose the music for his play "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour") does his interview in a car (a taxi?) while riding around London. And of course there is Farrow (his current wife) and two of his children - one a musician whose arms are covered...
